Week 32: We have a permit!!

Today I secured a building permit at the Dept. of Building and Safety in Downtown LA. My plan checker, Spencer Brunetto was great to work with and very helpful. We spent a couple of months leading up to this appointment communicating by email and it worked very well, because he had time to think about my questions/suggestions rather than refusing during the meeting because of pressure. The office will be closed while I check out some architecture in Paris, France next week. After that, the construction phase will begin and we will start assembling the bidding drawings. Despite teaching 4 days a week this term, I hope to be able to update the Blog with important information leading up to the permit. After the ordeal that resulted from the Highway Dedication waiver process I hope to educate more people on this process, because it will set the plan check schedule back about 8 weeks. After the bids come in we will choose our construction team and then put the project into construction in April.
