Week 32: We have a permit!!

Today I secured a building permit at the Dept. of Building and Safety in Downtown LA. My plan checker, Spencer Brunetto was great to work with and very helpful. We spent a couple of months leading up to this appointment communicating by email and it worked very well, because he had time to think about my questions/suggestions rather than refusing during the meeting because of pressure.
The office will be closed while I check out some architecture in Paris, France next week. After that, the construction phase will begin and we will start assembling the bidding drawings. Despite teaching 4 days a week this term, I hope to be able to update the Blog with important information leading up to the permit. After the ordeal that resulted from the Highway Dedication waiver process I hope to educate more people on this process, because it will set the plan check schedule back about 8 weeks. After the bids come in we will choose our construction team and then put the project into construction in April.

Week 30: Highway Dedication Cleared!

Victory!
Today, after an irate phone call, which was followed by an irate e-mail, the City came through with our Highway Dedication waiver.
We now are now cleared to continue the process of plan check.
For our next meeting we will be completing our signoffs and making our final appointment with our plan check engineer to verify that we are ready to pull our permit.
